International Captain Picard Day Community Art Show

Wall of Picard at Destiny City Comics

Wall of Picard at Destiny City Comics

Inspired by International Captain Picard Day Art shows featured in other cities, Jennevieve Schlemmer brought the idea of the CLAW and Destiny City Comics sponsoring such a show to the Council of Four-Eyes. The membership loved the idea and by unanimous finger pointing appoint Talon #21 aka: Jennevieve Schlemmer to the task of curator and head honcho in charge. Its through was only through her many hours of hard work that the Captain Picard Day Art Show and Festival became a reality.

The amount of art submitted was inspiring, as was the artwork itself. Early submissions revealed via social media encouraged other artists to create submissions. A buzz was being felt by everyone involved. When the evening of June 16th rolled around Destiny City Comics found its aisles filled with Captain Picard admirers. Many prizes were given out and we wish a prize could go to everyone in the show. A special thanks to judges Amy McBride (Tacoma City Arts Administrator) and Dan Long (Grand Cinema House Manager). They certainly had their task cut out for them. As did everybody who voted for the People’s Choice award. It really was a tough choice selecting a favorite. Additional thanks to the folks who participated in the costume competition.

The Captain Picard Day Art Show and Festival will remain up on the walls of Destiny City Comic through the month of June. Please stop by the store and take a close look at the display in person. You can pick up a newly minted-and free-Star Trek Activity themed Zine produced by the CLAW. There is also a table where you can find art and publications of the participating artists on sale. And of course most of the art is for sale as well.

Captain Picard Day

Come celebrate the wonderous life of Jean-Luc Picard as we observe International Jean-Luc Picard day! A special art show for the third Thursday of June put on by Destiny City Comics and sinister art rebels the C.L.A.W. (Cartoonist League of Absurd Washingtonians).

Art for sale, contests, local artists to meet and greet, and more. Reception on Thursday the 16th at 5pm. Judging at 7pm. Awards and prizes! Costumes strongly encouraged! Judges will be Dan Long, House Manager at the Grand Movie Theater and Amy McBride, Arts Administrator for the city of Tacoma.

Show will be up through the end of June.

CALL FOR ART!
Do you want to participate in the Captain Picard Art Show & Festival? Artists will receive 65% and Destiny City Comics 35%. The $5 fee helps CLAW to pay for wall hangers and paint and posters!

WHO: Any artist that loves Captain Picard as much as we do.

WHAT: Art that celebrates all things Picard. Must be smaller than 24″ x24″ and is READY TO HANG on wall. Slightly 3D okay but must be light and able to hang on wall. Alternative and out of the box media encouraged.

THE FINE PRINT: $5 Entry Fee for each piece. (cash only) Each artist can submit up to 3 pieces.
