Big CLAW Weekend: Comics Workshop at Pierce County Reads and Tacoma Wayzgoose!

Two days of CLAW events are coming up at this final weekend of April!

Pierce County Reads

We’ll be teaching a comics workshop at the Parkland/Spanaway Library for Pierce County Reads next Saturday the 28th from 6-8 PM.
For anyone who wants to dip their toes into making their own comics, zines, or graphic novels, this will be a primer on basic art practice and visual storytelling. Check out the event page and RSVP here!
A large portion will be devoted to open drawing time, so we encourage attendees to bring their latest inspiration, ideas, and projects. There will be a Q&A, plus a show & tell showcasing some great examples of independently produced comics and zines. We hope to see you there!

Tacoma Wayzgoose 2018

And of course, the time has come again for Tacoma Wayzgoose at King’s Books.

No steamroll printing for us this year, but our booth inside King’s Books will have CLAW and member merchandise, plus a new free activity this year. Bring any light-colored blank bags, shirts, handkerchiefs of any cloth (no nylon!) for a free linoleum stamp for fabrics!

No blank things to bring? Tinkertopia has you covered with a cool batch of fabric swatches to choose from. Check out our Instagram to see one of the two stamp designs we’ll be using (new one coming soon!).

March for Life 2018

NEW FEATURE: CLAW President’s Column…

Do we need a catchy title? I say no.

Welcome to the CLAW QUARTERLY, the new printed space for the CLAW artist guild of all that is wacky, art, comic, and prose related, and good in this world.
Why printed? Why not a blog or fleeting Instagram story like all the cool kids? I’ll give you several reasons. Those “stories” that are all the rage on social media right now exist for one reason only: to make you check online more often. Because they disappear, they create a sense of urgency for the users. You aren’t feeling pleasure when you catch a live Facebook feed; you are feeling relief that you haven’t missed out on something inextricably linked to all the fake perfect people you see in social media… CATCH THE REST ONLY IN THE PRINT EDITION OF CLAW QUARTERLY!  PS: New Newsletter Print Edition coming soon!

CLAW MARCH FOR LIFE NEWS..

OPEN SWIM REVIEW

February “WORKING ARTIST BEST PRACTICES” was a triumphant success with over 20 people in attendance. Big thanks to our guest panelists (pictured left to right)

Mindy Barker is a muralist who wrangles color and wrangles lines. All for, what she likes to call, “my interventions of urban spaces’.

Five years ago, Steve Garvin left corporate accounting to rediscover his creative side. Today, he’s a rebranding expert who helps creative thinkers plan a business they love by tapping into their hidden gold.

Michaela Eaves currently focuses on graphite illustrations where animals and creatures cross paths with fairy tales. Occasionally, some of these turn into watercolor and gouache paintings or books.
